Essentials of Conflict Resolution - February 26, 27 & 28, 2013 What you will learn: Five styles of conflict handling and their uses, conflict self-awareness, conflict analysis, communication for improving relationships, interest-based approach to conflict resolution, and applications in mediation, negotiation and facilitation. Understanding and Resolving Conflict Through Personality Type - March 12, 13 & 14, 2013 The Myers-Briggs Type Inventory (MBTI) is used to develop depth awareness of self and others in terms of personality-based conflict-handling motivations, strengths, weaknesses. Case applications are then made to teach the attitudes, values, and practical techniques for interpersonal harmony. Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction - April 3 - May 22, 2013 - Wednesday evenings This Stress Management Program is designed to teach individuals with a wide range of stressors how to take better care of themselves and participate fully in improving their health and quality of life as a complement to other medical treatment they may be receiving. The Department of Pathology & Microbiology at the Atlantic Veterinary College invites you to attend two seminars given by Dr. Gabriele Rieder from Paris-Lodron-University of Salzburg, Austria on February 14 and 15, 2013. Dr. Rieder is a candidate for a faculty position in bacteriology and is presenting her teaching seminar entitled 鈥淏acterial Morphology: Structure and Function" at 10:30 am in AVC Lecture Theatre B on Thursday, February 14. Her research seminar is scheduled for Friday, February 15 at 10:30 am in AVC Lecture Theatre B and is entitled 鈥 Helicobacter pylori - Foe or Friend?" Everyone is welcome! Thought of moving some of your teaching online but don't know where to start? We've planned two, half days over the break to introduce you to some of the possibilities. Faculty from around campus have been invited to show you what they are doing online. There will also be support staff to give you a sense of what services you can use to help you get started. The sessions will take place from 1:00-4:30 pm on February 19 and 9:00 am-12:30 pm on the morning of February 20. The workshops will be held in McDougall Hall 328 with light refreshments provided. There is no cost for the sessions, but faculty are invited to register with the Centre for Life-Long Learning via email Lisa Mackinnon-Laybolt at: lmmackinnon@upei.ca We also want to make it clear that the session is divided in two parts and are both meant to be attended. Respiratory Protection Training will be offered on Friday, February 22, 2013 from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. The session will provide information regarding the care, selection, and use of respirators. Whether you currently have a respirator or if you think you may need one for certain work tasks, then you should attend this session (every second year). This is also an important educational opportunity for those who supervise work involving individuals who may need respiratory protection. Under the 秀色短视频 Biosafety in Research and Teaching Policy use of the following types of material in research and teaching require a biosafety permit: - Organisms or materials classified under Risk Group 1, and organisms, materials, or pathogens classified under Risk Group 2; - Unfixed animal (or human) blood, tissues, cells and body fluids which may be biohazardous; - Non-indigenous entities (i.e. not known to be found in PEI), or life forms (animals, plants, micro-organisms); - Procedures involving large-scale (>10 L) production of micro-organisms; and - Genetically modified micro-organisms, animals, or plants. "Start With a Story." **** Armed with a SCENT travel grant, I attended the annual conference of the National Center for Case Study Teaching in Science. Now it鈥檚 time to bring others into the paradigm of using cases 鈥 student-centered stories, educational messages, problems, real world messages, dilemmas 鈥 to engage students so they connect new knowledge to old, hone their decision-making skills, and acknowledge other perspectives.
