The Sir James Dunn Animal Welfare Centre’s fifteenth annual Animal Welfare in Practice conference, scheduled for September 20–21, will focus on dairy cow welfare assessment. Among the experts who will share their knowledge about dairy cow welfare will be keynote speaker Dr. Kathryn Proudfoot, incoming director of the SJDAWC at the Atlantic Veterinary College.
A high-voltage transmission tower in Borden-Carleton, PEI, was the scene of a dramatic event on Wednesday, June 19. With the assistance of Fish and Wildlife PEI and Maritime Electric crews, Dr. David McRuer, wildlife health specialist with Parks Canada and an adjunct professor at AVC, removed a fledging eaglet from its nest, which was located inside the tower structure.
In June 2019, the Chinook Project team travelled to northern Labrador to provide free veterinary services in Nain and Natuashish. In all, approximately 150 medical appointments and 50 surgeries were performed.
Before an audience of over 100 people, two juvenile eagles stretched their wings and flew off into the sky at the Macphail Woods Ecological Forestry Project on Saturday, October 13, in Orwell, P.E.I. Prior to the release of the eagles, Mi’kmaq Elder Junior Peter-Paul led a smudging and drumming ceremony.
